Road construction, closures on local commute

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will close the following lanes, ramps and connectors of the Golden State Freeway (I-5) and the Antelope Valley Freeway (SR-14) as part of a $161-million improvement project to construct high-occupancy vehicle (HOV or carpool) lanes and a direct HOV lane connector at the I-5/SR-14 interchange.

Government is the problem

In response to Carole Lutness' "Is government really the problem?" column (March 31): The colonists revolted against England over taxes that were lower than the burden we have been paying. Effective April 1, we saw another tax increase. With a tax burden more than 50 percent of each dollar we earn, it should be obvious that the welfare state doesn't work.

Global bamboozle
