COC cuts not about teacher

Surely, when Diane Fiero said that "the goal is always to put the best instructor in front of the class and its students," she wasn't implying that part-timers lost their jobs (and full-timers didn't) because part-timer instructors are inferior in the classroom ("COC cuts fewer than expected," The Signal, Sept. 14).

Decoro redemption

The city of Santa Clarita should be commended for their about-face on the striping of Decoro to add bicycle lanes. The residents showed up in force at a community meeting and voiced their collective frustrations to the city's leaders. Surprisingly, they listened.

TreePeople and partners prepare for reforestation in fire-devastated national parks

LOS ANGELES -- The historic Angeles Forest Station Fire devastated more than 160,500 acres of forest lands, including the heart of Los Angeles' upper watershed and the headwaters of the Los Angeles River. TreePeople's California Wildfire Restoration Initiative, a private/public partnership, is already receiving requests from volunteers to replant the fire-damaged mountains, despite the dangers of civilians entering the mountains too soon after the fires.

SANTA CLARITA - The College of the Canyons Alumni and Friends, COC Foundation and COC athletics are 'calling all Cougars' to take part in the college's 40th Anniversary Homecoming Extravaganza Saturday, Oct. 3, at Cougar Stadium.

The evening features a fun-filled lineup of activities - including a barbeque dinner in the Cougar Den, live entertainment, a special 40th Anniversary program, children's activities, raffle prizes and spectator give-aways from the Cougar mascot.

Sierra Vista teacher earns governor's gold medal for P.E.
