COC’s Silver Spur Award to honor community service

The College of the Canyons Foundation's Silver Spur Award for community service is one of the Santa Clarita Valley's most prestigious honors and the annual Silver Spur dinner event itself has achieved "must attend" status for many community-minded individuals.

Castaic Lake clean up

More than 150 volunteers helped clean up Castaic Lake from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday. The Friends of Castaic Lake run a Pride in the Lake event on the second Saturday of every month. The February and September events also include a hot dog lunch for all of the volunteers. The Friends of Castaic Lake is a nonprofit group of volunteers dedicated to enhancing Castaic Lake State Recreation Area. For more information visit www.castaiclake.net.

Fire hydrant water geyser

A car hit and ruptured a fire hydrant at the corner of Bouquet Canyon Road and Valencia Boulevard in front of McDonald's about 8:15 a.m. Firemen stopped the water about a half hour after the collision.
