SCV Youth Orchestra receives $9k grant

The Santa Clarita Valley Youth Orchestra (SCVYO) Foundation and the College of the Canyons student orchestras have been awarded a $9,000 challenge grant from the Henry Mayo Newhall Foundation (HMNF) to establish a musical library on the COC Valencia campus.

COC Paralegal Studies program receives ABA approval

The American Bar Association's (ABA) House of Delegates this week awarded full approval to the College of the Canyons Paralegal Studies program. With the House of Delegates' decision, the COC Paralegal Studies program becomes the only ABA approved program of its kind in the Santa Clarita and Antelope valleys - and one of approximately 30 such programs in the state.

City reminds parents to keep track of medicine cabinets

In honor of Rx OTC Awareness Week, the city of Santa Clarita is reminding residents about the importance of keeping track of home medicine cabinet contents. The city's Blue Ribbon Task Force is also promoting the national event, held Feb. 22-28, which is designed to prevent prescription (Rx) and over-the-counter (OTC) drug use among youth.

Report: Cigarette tax hike could raise $575.2M for state, cut youth smoking
