Thunderstorms rattle region

Suspected drunken driver critically injured

A suspected drunken driver traveling against traffic on Rye Canyon Road, near Avenue Stanford, struck another driver, injuring both parties, about 2:54 p.m., according to Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station officials. The suspected drunken driver suffered moderate to major injuries, while the other driver also suffered injuries, Lt. Bill Weiss said. It appeared the two vehicles, one an SUV and the other a sedan, hit head on, an eyewitness who arrived on the scene shortly after the collision said.
