Summer is right around the corner and we couldn't be happier. We've dusted off the patio furniture and are ready for candlelit patio dinners with family and friends on balmy nights. Harold Ramis is one of the nicest people I've met in the movie business, and I'm so sorry "Year One" happened to him. I'm sure he had the best intentions. In trying to explain why the movie was produced, I have a theory. Ramis is the top-billed of three writers, and he is so funny that when he read some of these lines, they sounded hilarious. Pity he didn't play one of the leads in his own film.
I fail to comprehend our state legislators who feel that California's budgetary problems can be solved solely by cutbacks.
California is in a crisis. Much of its making is due to the severe national recession. But much is also self-imposed by the archaic and regressive constitutional requirement that the budget and any associated tax increases be passed by no less than two-thirds of each house of the Legislature. The zucchini is a true champion of summer - an over-achiever and vigorous grower that is amazingly easy to start from a tiny seed, pushed down into a mound of soil as soon as it's warm enough. Its savory fruits, yes fruits, we eat eagerly at first, hungry for a taste of the season.
