What does a wine store, hardware store, bookstore, and lingerie store all have in common? They're all specialty stores. Retailers who specialize in a particular type of merchandise and who employ a knowledgeable staff trained to answer questions and solve problems. Think of it this way: When you need a bra, do you go to the grocery store? Or a special wrench. Would a bookstore have that item?

'Who Was That Lady I Saw You With?' and 'Cinderella' being at Canyon Theatre Guild

The Canyon Theatre Guild's 2009-2010 Season begins with the comedy, "Who Was That Lady I Saw You With?" Set in the 1950s, the story centers David Williams, an innocent Columbia University chemistry professor (Michael Keane) who can make liquor as easily as an alchemist can make gold. Unfortunately, his wife, Anne (Kelly Bader) discovers him kissing a female student.

Long Beach Crawfish Festival

The 16th annual Long Beach Crawfish Festival serves Cajun-style crawfish dinners, prepared by Bristol Farms, this Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 1 and 2, at Rainbow Lagoon, 400-403 Shoreline Village Drive, Long Beach, CA 90802. The Saturday hours are noon to 11 p.m. and Sunday it's noon to 10 p.m.

Movie Review: 'Funny People'

Stand-up comics feel compelled to make you laugh. They're like an obnoxious uncle, with better material. The competition is so fierce these days that most of them are pretty good. I laugh a lot. But unlike my feelings for Catherine Keener, for example, I don't find myself wishing they were my friends. I suspect they're laughing on the outside but gnashing their teeth on the inside.
