Theft is not charity

In her letter to the editor ("Cameron Smyth is only kind to a few," Nov. 3), Kristin Ingram-Worthman castigated Cameron Smyth for not taking more money from Those Who Have No Name (let me guess, "the rich," perhaps?) and giving it to "poor kids without health care ... schools ... the elderly and disabled who ... have no dental or eye care."

Still a problem

In response to Emmy Bonja's letter "Setting the record straight" (Dec. 9): Driveway standards have been in place since 1927. I also read statements saying you had spent $35,000 to redo your driveway. Your driveway is not original to your home. While your garage is situated at an angle, there is still a clear path of travel from the street to your garage.

Joe Klocko: Criteria for business success

When you think of California do words like innovative, leading-edge and trendy come to mind? A place where new ideas first take root before they become woven into the very fabric of the national culture and industrial base before becoming recognized around the world as being uniquely "American".
