Student musicians shine in District Honor Band Saturday

Some of the most talented student musicians in the Wm. S. Hart Union High School District will be in the spotlight during the annual Hart District Honor Band Concert Saturday, March 7, at Hart Auditorium. Each honor band is composed of approximately 85 students chosen by audition from the top student musicians at each local junior high and high school.

Deadline nears for Zonta grant entries

In these difficult economic times, the Zonta Club of the Santa Clarita Valley Foundation is offering non-profit organizations a chance to receive much-needed funds. Organizations that improve the status of women of any age are encouraged to apply for a possible $3,000 grant in time for the March 14 deadline.

City offering tickets, wheels to 'Grease' performance

Tickets are still available for the City of Santa Clarita's excursion to see a live musical production of "Grease" on Saturday, March 14 at the Pantages Theater. Transportation is included in the ticket price and guests attending the event are asked to arrive at City Hall by 11:45 a.m. for departure and will return to the same location around 6:00 p.m. Tickets, $60 per person for residents and $75 for non-residents, are available until March 6 at 5 p.m.

City invites residents to participate in commuter parking survey

Santa Clarita's Transit Division is inviting residents to participate in an online commuter parking survey at www.santaclaritatransit.com where a direct link to the survey is available. The City is interested to learn local commuters' parking habits and hear their opinions on what is efficient and detrimental to the current parking system, as well as ideas on what can be done to improve it.

Antonovich secures Measure R funds for Metrolink improvements

To prioritize rail safety and infrastructure upgrades, the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) approved a motion by Directors Michael D. Antonovich, Don Knabe, Ara Najarian, Richard Katz, and Antonio Villaraigosa, securing "Measure R 3%" commuter rail funds to employ safety enhancing positive train control technology for Metrolink trains in Los Angeles County.

Antonovich seeks to kill 'puppy mills'
