'VIDA Registration Night' runs this month

Funded by the city of Santa Clarita and established in February 2006, the award winning VIDA Program or Vital Intervention and Directional Alternatives, is a 16-week program designed to assist "at-risk" youth between the ages of 12 and 17 by redirecting negative behavior into positive alternatives.

Firefighters put out brushfire off The Old Road

A brushfire erupted Saturday in Valencia just off The Old Road but was quickly doused. The fire started near The Old Road north of Magic Mountain Parkway about 3:10 p.m. Three engines, a camp crew and water tender helped knock it down in less than 10 minutes, according to Brendon Peart, supervising fire dispatcher for the L.A. Deputies arrest man for alleged carjacking, vandalism

Local sheriff's deputies assisted an off-duty Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy in detaining either a "drunk or insane" man at gunpoint Saturday afternoon at Sierra Highway and Sand Canyon Road, according to Sgt. Brian Allen of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station.
