SCV School Food Services Agency brings back Harvest

The Santa Clarita Valley School Food Service Agency is again implementing Harvest of the Month, a program that connects to core curricular areas and provides educators with materials and resources to motivate students to make healthy choices through hands-on experience with fruits and vegetables and physical activity. The program extends from the classroom and cafeteria to the home and community, promoting healthier habits and futures for students.

Sierra Vista teacher honored for P.E. program

George Velarde, head of the Physical Education department at Sierra Vista Junior High School, has been awarded a Gold Medal by the Governor's Council on Physical Fitness in a Sports Spotlight Award ceremony in Sacramento this week. As a Gold Medalist, Velarde will receive $10,000 for his school's P.E. program.

Thinking History: Ruiz Cemetery tells tragic story of dam disaster

I downloaded the directions and climbed in the car. Soon, I found myself 2.1 miles north of the intersection of Copper Hill and San Francisquito Canyon in Saugus. I had a picture of the site and it matched what I was seeing. Towards the west in the distance was the clump of trees I was aiming for, and if I squinted just right I could make out a white marker underneath. This was the place.

Abusing majority rule

Philosophically, Democrats have embraced the protection of minorities. This is something that Carole Lutness ("Majority rules in a democracy," Oct. 13) seemingly has overlooked. She laments the fact a simple majority in Sacramento's legislature cannot increase taxes; it takes a two-thirds majority. She advocates a simple majority rule and then claims she speaks for all of us. She doesn't speak for me.
