Our local roads are an embarrassment to us all

A couple of days ago, I had business on Lyons Avenue. As I traversed that asphalt line, I had an out-of-mind, but not out-of-body, experience. All of a sudden it was 1950, and I was in the rumble seat of Grandpa's 1929 Ford. The old car was jumping in and out of dirt ruts in the road. It brought back so many old memories.

Big corporations are robbing us of our voice

The deplorable Citizens United 5-4 decision of the U.S. Supreme Court was handed down one year ago Friday. Now corporations are continuing to claim even more rights of "personhood" by saying they can be "embarrassed" by what is said about them, which is another way of squelching citizens' voices protesting the power of the superrich controlling the corporations and banks.
