Downed power line sparks small blaze in Newhall Pass

A downed power line sparked a small brush fire in the Newhall Pass on the northbound side just north of the Interstate 5-Highway 14 split at about 9:41, according to the California Highway Patrol.

UPDATED: ‘Wild in the Parks’ held at Santa Clarita Skate Park Sept. 19

The city of Santa Clarita encourages local skaters to register for a spot in the upcoming Volcom Stone's "Wild in the Parks" skate contest, which will be held Saturday, Sept. 19 at the city's Skate Park. Pre-registration for the contest, originally scheduled for Wednesday, September 9, will now open on Friday, September 4 at volcom.com to give Santa Clarita skaters more time to register for the event.

Slain man's family offers reward

Almost a year after the unsolved slaying of Valencia resident Anthony Lombardi, his family is offering about $55,000 on top of an existing $20,000 reward to whomever comes forward with information leading to a conviction.
