County welfare for kids of illegal aliens tops $52 million in April

LOS ANGELES COUNTY - Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich released figures from the Department of Public Social Services showing that in April 2010, $52 million in welfare benefits ($22 million CalWORKs + $30 million in Food Stamps) were issued to parents who reside in the United States illegally and collect benefits for their native-born children in Los Angeles County. This amounts to approximately 23% of all CalWORKs and Food Stamp issuances in the county.

Artists named for bus shelter art project

Officials with the city of Santa Clarita's Public Art Project have chosen 10 works in September from those submitted by local artists to be featured on transit bus shelters throughout Santa Clarita to celebrate the Festival of the Arts, set for Oct. 2 and 3 Old Town Newhall.
