Los Angeles County - County Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich has called for Angeles Forest Highway to be renamed in honor of Captain Tedmund D. "Ted" Hall and Firefighter Specialist Arnaldo "Arnie" Quinones, Los Angeles County firefighters who died battling the Station Fire in 2009.

Appeal of ruling could delay gay weddings in California

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- A judge struck down California's same-sex marriage ban as an unconstitutional violation of gay couples' civil rights, but a pending appeal of the landmark ruling could prevent gay weddings from resuming in the state any time soon.

Chief U.S. District Judge Vaughn Walker overturned the voter-approved ban known as Proposition 8 Wednesday, declaring that limiting marriage to a man and a woman serves no legitimate purpose and is an "artifact" rooted in "unfounded stereotypes and prejudices."

While the title might sound frivolous, the reader soon learns that potatoes and their peels were one of the few foods Guernsey Island residents had to eat during the World War II German occupation of their island.
