Joe Messina: Hart District choosing rough road to a high school in Castaic

When you keep hitting "bumps" in the road, eventually you'll get to a point where you have to ask, "Is it the road's fault or the driver's?"

Happy Daddy’s Day

It seems like just yesterday you wiped away my tears. Late at night I called your name, and you came to chase away my fears. We're both growing and changing now, and as the minutes, hours and days go away. I couldn't be more grateful that God sent me your way. You're the best man I have ever met, so genuine, funny, smart but best of all you care. When I look at you Daddy ...

Apparently, happy people don’t vote

Frank Ferry certainly has an interesting take on low voter turnout. When asked about the poor turnout during his last election, Frank states, "It's not necessarily a bad thing when people don't vote," adding that low numbers may tend to show residents are content with city government. While most people would probably attribute low turnout to apathy, Frank thinks it is due to contentment with the status quo. Most educators would encourage people to vote, ...

Tim Myers: Hey, what happened to proportional representation?

Since no one ever spends serious money doing actual statistically sound polls around a Santa Clarita City Council election, the entire process since city formation stands fraught with apocryphal tales that achieve mythic status.

Drive out Highway 126 from Castaic Junction to the Pacific Ocean and take a good look at the orange and lemon groves, strawberry patches, flower factories, palm forests and avocado jungles that line the Santa Clara River. All told, that's a $700 million industry annually.

Reform health care now

I want to see health care for all Americans because I am one of 15 siblings. My father died of both brain and lung cancer when I was only 12 years old. This devastated my family leaving my mother to take care of the family. I also had a brother who passed away two years ago from heart disease. Lack of health care has hurt so many families and caused financial ruin. I find that ...
