Selling fear as fact regarding Jerry Brown

Regarding "My money is on Meg Whitman for governor," (Aug. 15): Roger Gitlin appears to be Sean Hannity's clone, espousing opinion as fact, and then selling fear as fact. He apparently knows little about Jerry Brown, though he sounds like the expert.

Glad about the Prop. 8 ruling

Rejoice and pass my double nonfat latte, a judge, appointed by Ronald Reagan no less, listened carefully to the two sides presented in regard to Proposition 8 and overturned the results from one of the most expensive and ridiculous things (was it really a law?) ever put on a ballot.

Anything from what happened to your family dog, to how glad we all are that we finally made it home safely. A report about a Good Samaritan helping someone in need.

Lori Hanson: Why weight-loss surgery doesn’t work

Living in Southern California, it's hard to miss the constant TV ads and billboards promoting various forms of surgical "cures" for the battle of the bulge. This has become big business. Managing diabetes with food and friends

Diabetes is a growing concern in our country. Nearly 81 million Americans - or one-in-four households - have diabetes or prediabetes, with a new case diagnosed every 20 seconds. While those statistics sound ominous, the good news is that this disease can be managed through diet, exercise, medication (if needed) and a strong support system.

I love you, but I don't have to like you right now

In a scene from the movie How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, the main character states, "I love you Binky, but I don't have to like you right now." Sometimes this is how we feel about our children, of course we love them, but in certain moments, we do not like them.

With the constant barrage of information available in today's 24/7 world, it's important to not get caught up in the day-to-day market volatility and news headlines.
