On Sept. 4, when the temperature was 104 degrees, a group held a rally and marched to Buck McKeon's Santa Clarita office.
In a recent Letter to the Editor of The Signal ("Lunetta logic is off," Sept. 13), Patricia Sulpizio wrote that much of the late Senator Ted Kennedy's legislation was Christ-like.
Mr. Lamoureux, Congratulations on your 100th column. I have a question about my wood flooring that is turning into a nightmare. We have a portable air conditioner that we purchased for our bedroom and have been using almost 24 hours a day for the last month. I leave it on when I go to work so it will be cool when I get home. Unfortunately, the unit leaked water onto my wood floors and they ...
ATM troubles While waiting in line for the drive-up ATM, the woman a few cars in front of me struggled from the driver's seat of her vehicle to reach the buttons on the machine. So she stepped out of the car and accomplished the transaction on foot, accidentally bumping her door shut. The automatic door locks went into effect, locking all four doors and her baby inside. After failing to coach the baby into unlocking ...

Surely, when Diane Fiero said that "the goal is always to put the best instructor in front of the class and its students," she wasn't implying that part-timers lost their jobs (and full-timers didn't) because part-timer instructors are inferior in the classroom ("COC cuts fewer than expected," The Signal, Sept. 14).
Watching the recent 2009 U.S. Open tennis matches was truly a "love match." For the moment took away the woes of our troubled society.
After reading Tim Myers' commentary in Sunday's Signal several times ("Credit is due: the revenue side," The Signal, Sept. 6), I was still trying to understand the point he was attempting to make.
The city of Santa Clarita should be commended for their about-face on the striping of Decoro to add bicycle lanes. The residents showed up in force at a community meeting and voiced their collective frustrations to the city's leaders. Surprisingly, they listened.
Robin Shane photographs a mural, on the underside of a bridge, depicting the history of the area and the Oak of the Golden Dream, where California gold was discovered in 1842.

The contract helps bring the district's spending in line with massive cuts in state funding and ...
LOS ANGELES -- The historic Angeles Forest Station Fire devastated more than 160,500 acres of forest lands, including the heart of Los Angeles' upper watershed and the headwaters of the Los Angeles River. TreePeople's California Wildfire Restoration Initiative, a private/public partnership, is already receiving requests from volunteers to replant the fire-damaged mountains, despite the dangers of civilians entering the mountains too soon after the fires.
Think "inspiration." Think "spiritually beautiful." Think "melodically breathtaking."
