Review: 'Cop Out'

Jimmy and Paul are cops hunkered down across the street from a stakeout when they see a mysterious figure run across rooftops and break into a house. Seconds later, he can clearly be seen in an upper window, sitting on a toilet and reading a magazine.

Video Game Review: 'Dante's Inferno'

If ever there was a work of great literature tailor-made for adaptation into a video game, it would be Dante Alighieri's "Inferno" from "The Divine Comedy," a three-part poem. It has hell's signature foreboding and a litany of monstrous entities that any game developer needs for a good head start.

Review: "The Crazies'

"The Crazies" is a perfectly competent genre film in a genre that has exhausted its interest for me, the zombie film. It provides such a convenient storytelling device: Large numbers of mindless zombies lurch toward the camera and the hero, wreaking savage destruction, and can be quickly blown away, although not without risk and occasional loss of life. When sufficient zombies have been run through, it's time for a new dawn.

Nathan Imhoff: More empty words from Gitlin

"If we don't believe in freedom of expression for people we despise, we don't believe in it at all." - Noam Chomsky

While observing all the talking, shouting and letters to the editor in recent days on the topic of free speech, I was reminded of the many chats I had with my dad in our family garage while I was growing up.

Just a proud American

As a third-generation Hispanic man, I applaud Bob Kellar for his stand on illegal immigrants and stating that if being an American and standing up for his fellow Americans makes him a racist then he is a "proud racist."

Bill Kennedy: What’s the cost of honor?

"Sir, are you listening to the radio?"

Catching me at home at 6:45 a.m. as I was preparing to leave for my job as base commander of Hickam Air Force Base, Hawaii, I knew instantly this was not an idle inquiry from my executive officer.

Alice Khosravy: Role of government on display

Recently, the community of Santa Clarita has been buzzing over potential billboard removals and the possibility of sign ordinance changes. It began when the Metro Group, who owns the land on which the billboards in question reside, approached the city with a proposal to remove every billboard in the Metro (railroad) right-of-way, within the Soledad Canyon Road and Railroad Avenue corridors, in the center of the city. This amounts to the permanent removal of 118 billboards on 62 structures along the Metro right-of-way in exchange for a change to the current sign ordinance that would allow them to build three ...

Busting misconceptions about investor perceptions

We all know that perception often influences our decisions, yet we catch ourselves and become reminded that what we perceive isn't always what's really going on. With the constant barrage of information available in today's 24/7 world, it's important to not get caught up in the day-to-day market volatility and news headlines. That daily hype doesn't always dovetail with what Wells Fargo Advisors top strategists are observing in the financial marketplace.
