Lance Mackey wins 4th consecutive Iditarod

NOME, Alaska (AP) - Lance Mackey picked up a few rewards on his way to winning an unprecedented fourth consecutive win in the 1,100-mile Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race.

The 39-year-old musher from Fairbanks stopped to pick up a moose rack along the trail, and, 10 miles from the finish line in Nome Tuesday, he spent five minutes digging up a pair of caribou antlers that he used as a sort of hood ornament on the homestretch.

Hart cheerleaders show heart

The Hart High School cheerleaders closed out the Cell Phones for Soldiers Drive in February, collecting 439 cell phones this year, which was the best turnout in its three-year history. The squad kicked off the drive in August with local U.S. Army recruiters. All of the used cell phones collected will be sent to the nonprofit organization, Cell Phones for Soldiers. The phones are recycled and money is used to purchase prepaid phone cards. This allows soldiers serving overseas to stay in touch with their families.

Job shadowing alters life

My job shadowing experience at ITT Tech was one of the most amazing hands-on experiences that I have ever had the opportunity to participate in as a high school student. I didn't think that my goal in life would change in one day.

PALM HARBOR, Fla. (AP) - Tiger Woods said Tuesday he will return to golf next month at the Masters, ending a four-month hiatus brought on by a sex scandal that shattered his image as the gold standard in sports.

"The Masters is where I won my first major and I view this tournament with great respect," Woods said in a statement. "After a long and necessary time away from the game, I feel like I'm ready to start my season at Augusta."

Cher Gilmore: Ignorance is not bliss

Fracking has captured the headlines recently, but another, less well-known technique for extracting oil trapped in rock cavities deep underground is increasingly being used in California and is an even bigger threat to health and the environment.
