Work begins on Newhall Memorial parking structure

Construction of a new $10.1 million parking structure on the 1.9-acre Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital campus in Valencia has begun, according to McCarthy Building Companies, Inc., which is building the structure.

Route 66 Classic Grill hosted a 9/11 tribute in conjunction with its classic car show in Canyon Country on Saturday. Sara Niemietz sang "God Bless America" at the event, and city councilman Bob Kellar was emcee.

Locals gather to clear trash from river

The crowd of approximately 1,300 people went the 16th annual River Rally for several reasons Saturday. Some did it because they needed volunteer hours for school, some did it out of a sense of civic pride, some did it just to experience the natural landscape of Santa Clarita and others did it simply because it seemed like fun, Santa Clarita's environmental services manager Travis Lange said.
