Medicare cost increasing?

I received recently a letter that stated my Medicare was going to go up $9. I recently read in the paper it wasn't going up for some reason. I think our health premiums are high enough and shouldn't go up every year. It gets harder to keep up with the increases they want us to pay. I hope our new president can help to keep the increases down. I am a senior in my 80s ...

Tim Myers: Everyone is willing to spend someone else's money

I believe I attended my last State of the City meeting in 2004. These luncheons constituted an opportunity for local elected officials to "speechify" concerning the many predictable accomplishments of the year, from new roads to shiny new recreation facilities.

John Boston: Obama and the beheading of Attila's ambassadors

"The people never give up their liberties but under some delusion." - Edmund Burke It's the cold and flu and Obamamania season. Since November, I've contracted two of the three maladies. I've had a dry, hacking cough that won't go away, and drat if I haven't felt weaker than a kitten left in the dryer. But I've yet to catch Obamamania. I don't gurgle like Homer Simpson over a box of donuts when I hear ...

In turn, all districts need to first lay off people who do not directly work with children. Currently, many districts pay for many consultants, administrators and bureaucrats who also have many assistants. Districts also need to eliminate waste. When you donate ...

'Card check' would stifle recovery

With so many businesses going bust, workers losing their jobs and families losing their homes, it's dumbfounding to think Congress would give so much as a passing glance at legislation that would shutter even more small businesses and kill even more American jobs.

Weeping Pistorius faces premeditated murder charge

PRETORIA, South Africa (AP) - In a courtroom, not an Olympic stadium, there was no click-click-click of Oscar Pistorius' prosthetic limbs. His only sound Friday was loud, uncontrollable sobs as prosecutors charged him with premeditated murder in the shooting death of his model girlfriend.
