Church helps the Garnica family

Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church parishioner Mercedes Cruz, center, serves a traditional Mexican meal to Jose Perez, left, and his wife, Irma, second from left. More than 35 volunteers arrived at the church's Parish Hall at 7 a.m. to prepare for hundreds of guests who came to Newhall to help the Garnica family, after mother Matilde Garnica died in a fatal crash on the Fourth of July.

Safety is vital

Regarding safety for the Fourth of July fireworks at Westfield Valencia Town Center Mall: A large church in Chatsworth funded a grand Fourth of July fireworks display at 9 p.m. close to the large residential Porter Ranch area and many nearby large businesses in the Chatsworth-Northridge area of San Fernando Valley.
