‘The Reader’ is Hard to Love

As in 2002's "The Hours," director Stephen Daldry and screenwriter David Hare's last pairing, "The Reader" has the flawless production values and sheen of prestige that make it easy to admire, yet an emotional detachment that makes it difficult to embrace fully.

‘New In Town’ is sweet romantic comedy set in the small town heartland of the country

We open on a gathering of the Scrappers Club, four women around a kitchen table pasting things into scrapbooks. The moment we hear one of them talking, we're not too surprised to find her name is Blanche Gunderson. Her sister Marge, the trooper, must have been the ambitious one. Not that Blanche isn't, just that she's relentlessly nice.
