Tammy Messina: The parties of freedom and equality

On my husband's radio show a few weeks ago, he had guests representing both Republican and Democratic viewpoints. The assessment boiled down to this: "Republicans are the party of freedom; Democrats are the people's party, the party of equality." That got me thinking.

Local band plays Friday to benefit crash victim, Haiti orphanage

Hart district confirms Cole, Lee

In the July 14 meeting of the William S. Hart Union High School District governing board, boardmembers confirmed Tom Cole as the new chief of operations and Greg Lee as the director of human resources and equity services.

In his new position, Cole will supervise the district's businesses services departments that include facilities, maintenance and operations, transportation, construction, and risk management.

Residents of Castaic have been promised a high school, and have suffered long school commutes for many years. The entire Santa Clarita Valley voted in bonds to help build that school, but for one reason or another, it has still not been built.
