Hart district sends potential layoff notices to 95 certificated employees

The Wm. S. Hart Union High School District mailed notices of potential layoffs to 95 certificated employees this week, fulfilling a legal obligation to notify employees whose jobs could be affected by a possible "reduction in force" due to the current State budget crisis.

Old Town Newhall streetscaping starts Monday

The city of Santa Clarita is moving forward with another significant investment in Old Town Newhall - the beginning of a new "streetscape" for two blocks of Main Street. I certainly agree that we must compel employers to use the E-Verify system. The employers who hire people who are not in the system should be prosecuted. We have people working in discount stores in Newhall and fast-food restaurants in Valencia and Canyon Country who do not speak one word of English. Did those employers use the system?
