Davenport’s letter is optimistic

In response to "Embrace change" (July 25): I must "embrace" Robert P. Davenport II's letter to the editor about solar power as a very optimistic look at clean energy for the future. The future is now, and the United States needs this clean, renewable energy to move forward to save the planet.

Give it to someone appreciative

Our city is considering adding an incredibly expensive $210 million treatment plant to lower the salt content in our reclaimed water, which we currently discharge into the Santa Clara River - an otherwise bone-dry creekbed.

YOUth festival opens eyes

Youthful energy was on full display on Saturday at the second annual Santa Clarita YOUth Sports Festival in Central Park on Bouquet Canyon Road. Sports of all varieties - from the traditional fare of basketball and football to the on-the-fringe variety such as disc golf - were available for youngsters to experience.

Grilling for veterans

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6885 on Sierra Highway was filled with the aromas of perfectly seasoned meats on Saturday. The BBQ Cook Off was held in an effort to raise money for the VFW in the hopes that they will be able to afford a new kitchen, said event planner Pam Bernardi.
