According to the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation (LAEDC), figures released last week showed California's July unemployment rate remained unchanged from June, at 12.3 percent. Joblessness in California continues to be higher than the nation, a trend since September 2008. Only two other states rank higher, Nevada with 14.4 percent and Michigan at 13.1 percent. The loss of thousands of Census workers contributed to the job-loss picture.
