Local child actors receive honors

Valencia residents Merit Leighton, a 7-year-old actress, and her sister Marlowe Peyton, a 5-year-old actress and singer, were honored with a Child Actor Recognition Event (CARE) Award during a red-carpet ceremony at Universal Studios Hollywood on March 14.

Parents watch preschool lottery

In a sign of tough economic times, a record number of parents applied to have their children attend a discounted preschool at Mountainview Elementary School, where a lottery took place on a recent Friday to determine which children would be enrolled for the 2010-11 school year.

Doctor says Beckham's Achilles' tendon 'totally torn'

TURKU, Finland (AP) - The doctor who performed surgery on David Beckham says his left Achilles' tendon was "totally torn."

Surgeon Dr. Sakari Orava says Beckham "is doing well" and that Monday's operation lasted just under an hour at the clinic in Turku, southwestern Finland.

Brian Roney: Recycled water plan is another boondoggle

The Castaic Lake Water Agency implemented a plan in 2002 to develop a recycled water program. This $70 million system was designed to treat water from the Valencia Water Reclamation Plant, located on The Old Road, and provide it for primarily landscaping needs throughout the valley.
