As many people are aware, the Army Corps of Engineers is reviewing a permit that will allow Newhall Land Development LLC to alter the Santa Clara River in order to build the massive 21,000-unit Newhall Ranch project. It's not just the river that would need to be changed. The original proposal included channeling as much as 80 percent of the tributaries.

First and foremost

Regarding the fatal collision on July 4 at the fireworks event in Valencia, the Santa Clarita City Council is missing a very important factor: Cars and crowds never mix. The only answer to keep the public safe is to close down Valencia Boulevard and open it to only emergency vehicles, as they can be seen and heard. I believe this is the only way to ensure the safety of the public. This is not rocket science, folks.

Number of homeless seniors to rise sharply, study says

Moorpark, Calif. - U.S. Census projections have found that the number of homeless senior citizens could increase by at least 33 percent within the next ten years, with that number doubling by the year 2050, the National Alliance to End Homelessness reported last April.

How to protest the proposed sewer charge rate increase

Under Proposition 218, the owner of record for a parcel that is subject to the proposed increase can submit a written protest against the proposed rate increases to the District at or before the time set for the public hearing.
