Close calls at polls encouraging

Another Election Day has come and gone in the Santa Clarita Valley. The votes have been counted. The people have spoken. Though voter turnout was low - as it generally is in nonpresidential years - there was an interesting twist. For the most part, challengers got surprisingly close in their efforts to unseat incumbents.

David Hegg: Society losing sense of real commitment

Maybe it was the most recent celebrity micro-marriage, and then again, maybe it was the protracted labor negotiations between those who put on the show called professional basketball. Two Women on Wine:A tapestry of colors and flavors

As traditional as our Thanksgiving meal tends to be, our choice of wines we serve is anything but traditional. As in years past, we will have the pleasure again this year of serving our guests a few varietals they may not have had before, especially with turkey and all its fixings. In fact, it has become a tradition that our guests not only look forward to our Thanksgiving spread, but they are very excited about what interesting wines we will be serving.

We all know that perception often influences our decisions, yet we catch ourselves and become reminded that what we perceive isn't always what's really going on.
