Better uses for Whittaker-Bermite

I am somewhat perplexed about the time and money being spent on a particular piece of real estate in the Santa Clarita Valley. The desire to develop the land that was the former site of the Whittaker-Bermite munitions plant does not make sense. Why is there such urgency to develop one of the few remaining natural hillsides in the valley?

Berry Petroleum to expand in state

Berry Petroleum, headquartered in Denver with a production operation in Santa Clarita Valley, increased oil and gas production in 2010 over the previous year. The company reported this week that it generated net earnings of $83 million. Oil and gas revenues totaled $620 million and discretionary cash flow totaled $391 million in 2010.

Detectives find $2,500 worth of heroin in man’s underwear

Deputies found about $2,500 worth of heroin inside a Pacoima man's underwear during a traffic stop in Sylmar, authorities said Tuesday. Juvenile Intervention Team and narcotics detectives stopped the man's car about 2 p.m. Monday on the 13000 block of Bradley Ave, Lt. Brenda Cambra of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station said in an e-mail. Authorities found about 1,000 doses of heroin in the man's underwear while searching him, Cambra said.
