Electrical fire causes $50K in damage

A blown transformer sparked a fire at a business in the Valencia Commerce Center that makes aircraft parts Monday afternoon causing about $50,000 worth of damage, authorities said.

Northlake Hills blood drive Oct. 28

Northlake Hills Elementary School in Castaic is slated to host its annual blood drive from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Oct. 28 at the Castaic school's multipurpose room. The event is sponsored by the school's Parent-Teacher Association and the American Red Cross. The school is located at 32545 Ridge Route Road in Castaic.

New office at CalArts

The California Institute of the Arts this week announced the creation of a new office overseeing international initiatives at the Valencia art school. Carol Kim has been appointed to the role of vice president for international relations. The office will oversee CalArts' existing international collaborations as well as work with faculty to identify and prioritize new opportunities around the world.
