Hollow words
In a story in The Signal's Nov. 6, 2008, edition, following the passage of Measure SA ("First priority: Castaic high school"), Hart District School Board Member Gloria Mercado-Fortine stated, "We are going to move forward in full disclosure and transparency and really encourage the community to work with us as we implement the bond."

Library is new lighthouse, plaza
A long time ago, at every beach there was a lighthouse. The lighthouse's purpose was to guide the sailors. When a storm was darkening the skies and the sailors could not find their way in the middle of the ocean, the lighthouse was their salvation.
It’s time for better health care
Many families are struggling with high health care costs. Health care premiums get more expensive each year, rising six times faster than wages since 2000.
Conservative hypocrisy
The argument is made that nobody is perfect and that the Democrats are just as immoral as Republicans. There are Democratic sex scandals to be sure, but Democrats didn't build a franchise on holier-than-thou moral rectitude. The Republicans did.
City should not duck ducks issue
Regarding Gina Momary's Letter to the Editor, "Bridgeport still a deadly place for ducks" (Opinion, July 1), I, too, sat and ate my dinner at California Pizza Kitchen as I watched a family of geese get run over by cars last week.

The waiting game continues for Castaic high
Here we go again. Another potential Castaic high school site bit the dust recently as Hart district Superintendent Jaime Castellanos surrendered to the futility of trying to convince Newhall Land executives and Valencia Commerce Center property owners to change their minds. The landowners aren't about to allow a bunch of dirty, rotten high school students - or the apparently similar ilk of tattoo artists and scantily clad waitresses - to tarnish their pristine business park. ...
