Organic foods going under the microscope

To protect and inform consumers, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors approved a motion by Supervisor Antonovich directing the Chief Executive Officer and the county's Agricultural Commissioner to conduct a study to determine the accuracy of organic claims made by supermarkets. "Consumers have the right to know that foods advertised as organic are grown free of pesticides, insecticides, herbicides, antibiotics or genetic modification," Antonovich said.
