CTG Gala seeks sponsors, volunteers, guests

The Canyon Theatre Guild throws its annual gala fundraiser with a "Taste of Adventure" pirate theme on Friday, Oct. 2, beginning at 6 p.m. The evening will include swashbuckling pirates, beautiful wenches, food, fun and fundraising with silent and live auction items. Open Book Alliance lauds DOJ filing in Google Book case

SAN FRANCISCO -- The Open Book Alliance, a coalition of librarians, legal scholars, authors, publishers and technology companies created to counter the proposed Google Book Settlement in its current form, issued the following statement on Sept. 18 in response to the Department of Justice's filing with the U.S. District Court:

Publishers and authors ask to delay Google hearing for new settlement

SANTA MONICA, Calif. -- Publisher and author associations sought today to cancel a key hearing in the Google Books case to allow private negotiations with Google over digitizing books online. Consumer Watchdog warned that important issues affecting copyright law should not be negotiated behind closed doors.

Santa Clarita floodplain residents eligible for insurance discount

Due to city of Santa Clarita staff efforts and outreach, the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) improved Santa Clarita's 'Community Rating' from a "9" to an "8" in the NFIP Community Rating System (CRS), resulting in a 5 percent increase in discounts applied to flood insurance policies.
