Regular readers of this column know how opposed this author is to labor unions and public-service employee unions in particular. Unions had a critical function decades ago, when workers were abused and not considered a valuable asset in business management. This is not true today.

The Santa Clarita City Council officially proclaimed Oct. 22 as Rubber Ducky Day.
