We can do better

I am an American, too. Proud and working hard to get America back on its feet. Right now it seems that Uncle Sam is on his knees trying to carry all this debt we have compiled in our great United States. Let's give him (and us) a hand by defeating this terrible health care bill.

We need reform

I am very much in favor of President Barack Obama's health care reform. Please help with passing HR3962, the Affordable Health Care for America Act. It is so important that we have this. Let's make it a time to pass the most important legislation of the last few decades. Thank you.

Rethinking reform

The Senate is ready to debate its version of health care "reform." Weeks of intense political posturing and payoffs are projected, with a possible final showdown right before Christmas. Though pollsters say popular support has declined to below that of Hillarycare, the Democratic majority seem determined to force dramatic changes on members of an unwilling public. With our economy crumbling around us under the burden of ill-advised bailouts, who can blame them? Concerned Independents ...

Our View: A world of ways to give in the SCV

Consider this a Thanksgiving postcript. If there's one thing that's a standout about Santa Clarita Valley residents, it's that they're a pretty giving bunch, in both good times and lean times. Early last week, this paper reported on the sparse shelves at the Church of Hope's food pantry. On Tuesday, it was down to one turkey to give away for Thanksgiving. It didn't take long for a group of members of Copperhill Community Church and ...

W.E. Gutman: Libertarianism: A lofty ideal or simply artifice?

So, you call yourself a "Libertarian?" You're not alone. But do you fully understand a term that has been sloppily coined and deceptively marketed?

Tim Myers: The decline of football is all in the numbers

Back in the late 1990s, a sports reporter contacted me to obtain a quote concerning an upcoming Hart-Valencia football game during the 10 years the Vikings tried (and failed) to obtain a victory during many regular season and playoff games.

It’s a matter of freedom

Where does the Constitution state an individual health insurance mandate? At a recent news conference, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi was asked where the Constitution grants Congress the authority to enact an individual health insurance mandate. Madame speaker inadequately brushed off the question publically, refusing the reporter a simple and truthful answer. We can only speculate that it's a matter of constitutional contempt or constitutional ignorance on the part of the exalted lady. (Yikes! ...
