Jim Lentini: Protection for good times and bad

As the Great Recession ends, generations that never experienced the Great Depression of 1929 now see reasons for cushioning their income from the uncertainties of life, including disability, illness and accidents. It was a year of reckoning for Americans in 2009. The dependency on credit and excessive spending, which characterized much of the previous decade, has been replaced by a greater emphasis on saving money and preparing for the unexpected.

Local biopharmaceutical company to sell shares

MannKind Corporation, a Valencia biopharmaceutical company, announced that it has entered into an agreement with Seaside 88, a private investment limited partnership, for the sale of 700,000 shares of common stock to Seaside 88 every two weeks over the course of a year, for up to a total of up to 18.2 million shares of MannKind common stock. The initial sale is expected to close on Sept. 22.

Kaiser survey: Gulf oil spill worse than Katrina for area residents

Gay marriage is not OK

In response to David Warburton's letter, "Bravo to Judge Walker" (Aug. 8): I noticed you thanked God for Judge Vaughn Walker's decision on gay marriage. However, in His word, God is very clear about the establishment of marriage. So, I am confused about why you would be thanking God for this. God created man and woman to be partners to His glory.
