Tim Myers: Jon Hatami: a serious City Council candidate

And from the desert of autocracy, a flower of democracy arises. Right before Thanksgiving, Jon Hatami, a deputy district attorney residing in the City of Santa Clarita, with roots in the community that date back to 1983, announced on Facebook that he would seek a seat on the City Council in the April 2012 election.

Lee Rogers: Rep. McKeon passes the buck on Cemex inaction

In an article this week in The Signal, Rep. Howard "Buck" McKeon, R-Santa Clarita, cites the Republican ban on earmarks for his failure to introduce a bill into the House of Representatives which would engage Cemex in a land swap to prevent mining in Soledad Canyon. In the same breath he praises, then chastises the earmark ban.

Nancy Moulton: Anti-Gingrich claims lacking in honesty

The Nov. 21 column "Thank goodness Gingrich will never be president," written by Ann McFeatters, has got to be the most biased and blatant tunnel view of Newt Gingrich ever.

David Hegg: Self-gratification is a highway to self-destruction

Few things bother me more than hypocrisy. I was raised in a very strict home in which all of the usual societal vices were forbidden. As the old saying goes, we were not allowed "to smoke or chew or go out with girls who do." Added to the list were prohibitions on alcohol, movies, playing cards, shopping on Sunday and a few other things that were branded as both unrighteous and downright dangerous to the soul.
