Burkhart named 2011 VIA chairman

Tim Burkhart, general manager at Six Flags Magic Mountain, has been named the Valley Industry Association's chairman of the Board of Directors for 2011. Burkhart will be installed during a luncheon Dec. 21 at the Valencia Country Club, 27330 Tourney Road in Valencia.

VIA luncheon Nov. 16

Free flu shots today

The Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center will host a free flu-shot clinic from 9-11 a.m. today. Presented through the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, the outreach will also include free pneumonia and pertussis (whooping cough) vaccines. Nurses will be available to answer questions about the vaccinations. Extra parking will be available on Market Street in the First Presbyterian Church back lot. The center is located at 22900 Market St. in Newhall. For more information, call (661) 259-9444.

Flu shots, hunger drive at SCV Senior Center

From 9-11 a.m. today, a free flu shot clinic will take place at the Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center, 22900 Market St. in Newhall. Presented through the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, the outreach will also include free pneumonia and pertussis (whooping cough) vaccines. Nurses will be on hand to answer all questions about the vaccinations, including reasons for getting them (or not), side effects and possible contradictions.
