Warm up to going tankless

I can remember puttering around in my garage and hearing the rush and muffled roar of the flames kicking on inside my old-school water heater. This was when hot water was being used inside the house - and sometimes, it was just the device keeping that big tank-full of water heated to the right temperature as the cold air in the open garage sucked the warmth out of it. It always gave me an uneasy feeling, knowing I was paying to heat up the great outdoors.
