Right stoking jealousy against public workers

Gary Horton's column in the Wednesday, March 2 Signal is spot-on. Instead of asking why benefits such as a pension and health insurance have been dropped or greatly diluted by private sector employers over the past 30 years, some are turning on those few left among us - public workers - who still have them.

St. Stephen's wrong to ordain openly gay priest

I was troubled to read in The Signal's Saturday, Feb. 26 article, "Faith callings finally realized" that St. Stephen's Episcopal Church ordained an openly unrepentant lesbian woman who is quoted in the article as saying: "You don't need to be ordained or espouse a specific faith community, we are all connected by who we are and the energy that surrounds."

Tim Myers: The ‘problem’ with public-sector unions

First, let me share my pro-union and public employee bonafides. My parents spent decades primarily teaching the public school students in the Davis County Community School District, which provided our family of five with what I now know constituted a solid middle class life in rural Iowa.

Tony Strickland: Save jobs by saving the enterprise zones

There's been very little to celebrate about California's economy over the past few years with unemployment at record highs, businesses leaving the state in increasing numbers and annual budget deficits topping $20 billion.

David Hegg: Making sense of your success

I often attend conferences where the attendees are given name tags that boldly announce who they are. This creates a phenomenon rarely seen elsewhere. As we walk the halls of the conference center or hotel, our eyes are fixed on the name tags of those we pass. We're anxious to see if they are "somebody." Is he a well-known speaker?

Now that our city has survived another local election, I thought it would be appropriate to make some comments regarding elections and city hall. After all, things can get pretty exciting, or should I say concerning around election time in Santa Clarita.
