Shark festival swims into Long Beach

LONG BEACH -- Non-profit organization Iemanya Oceanica (pronounced ya-MON-ja) will present the Great Shark Affaire, a festival to be held at the Long Beach Rainbow Lagoon, Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 2-3. This charitable event will teach about ocean conservation as well as protecting sharks and their habitats.

Lynne Plambeck: Caring for the Santa Clara River

This Saturday, Santa Clarita will once again hold its annual river rally, an event so popular the city no longer need advertise for volunteers. More than 1,500 Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts are expected to turn out to remove trash from the Santa Clara River, hear presentations from biologists on its importance and visit the booths at the environmental fair.
