Fall Star Party Oct. 15

College of the Canyons will host its fall Star Party from 7-9 p.m. on Oct. 15 at the school's Canyon Country campus. The event will feature Dr. David Ciardi and Dr. Kevin Grazier of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory who will present a short lesson about Jupiter. Visitors will also be able to view the planet through telescopes. Food will be sold on campus and a portion of the concession sales will go to the Dr. Ram Manvi Memorial scholarship fund. ‘Punt, Pass, and Kick Competition’

Boys and girls ages 6 to 15 are invited to attend Santa Clarita's annual Punt, Pass, and Kick Competition from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sept. 25 at Central Park. Each participant will be allowed one punt, pass and kick, and points will be tallied and reported to the winner following the competition. The winner will have an opportunity to advance to the Punt, Pass and Kick Competition Sectional Competition in October, where the selected winner from sectionals will then continue on to the Team Championships at an upcoming Chargers game in November and December. UPDATE: Pursuit suspect in custody after armed standoff

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Police have captured a wanted man who climbed onto rooftops in a San Fernando Valley neighborhood while armed with a rifle after a freeway chase Monday, and then barricaded himself in a home for several hours.
