We'll have to take their word for it (that "Love Happens"). Aaron Eckhart and Jennifer Aniston are so utterly lacking in chemistry with each other (and they're both pretty bland individually) that it's hard to discern any genuine emotion. Why bother to remake "Fame" if you don't have a clue about why the 1980 movie was special? Why take a touching experience and make it into a shallow exercise? Why begin with an R-rated look at plausible kids with real problems and tame it into a PG-rated after-school special? 16th annual West Pow Wow

DUI checkpoints tonight

Newhall California Highway Patrol officers will be on the lookout for drunk drivers tonight. Officers will conduct a sobriety checkpoint in Los Angeles County's unicorporated areas from Friday at about 8:30 p.m. to Saturday at about 2:30 a.m, a CHP report said. Gunshots Reported

Members of the SCV Sheriff's Department enter the Tony Alamo Christian Church after gunshots were reported near the compound Thursday afternoon. Officers checked the building but did not find any suspects or injured persons. The surrounding areas were also investigated but turned out inconclusive.
