An 'Evening Under the Stars'

There were heroes to be found at the 15th annual Evening Under the Stars held Sept. 6 to benefit the Michael Hoefflin Foundation for Children's Cancer. Heroes bald from chemotherapy, heroes who needed help walking and heroes demonstrating quiet bravery came forward to accept their Hoefflin "Shining Star" trophies.

Home for the holidays

Light poles decorated like candy canes, flying reindeer, cotton batting as snow, lights and lights and lights ... there is nothing more glorious in the Santa Clarita Valley than the holidays. I've been fortunate to be a part of The Signal's Holiday Light Tour since 1999 and I've enjoyed every moment. It is wonderful to see how much time and effort people put into decorating their homes for the holidays and how much joy it brings to the rest of the SCV.

Grief comes after job loss or layoff

Shock, anxiety, fear, doubt, worry, confusion - these are just a few of the normal and natural feelings after the loss of a job, layoff or end of a career. Jeff Zhorne, director of The Grief Program of Santa Clarita, said the purest definition of grief is any change in a familiar pattern or behavior, certainly true after the loss of an income stream.
