Saturday is the absolute, drop-dead deadline for entries in the Santa Clarita Valley's 78th anniversary Fourth of July parade, a longstanding tradition that kicks off a day of patriotic and family-oriented activities in the SCV.

Part 2 The setting for the second day of briefings in the Santa Clarita Valley lobbying/fact finding/networking trip to Sacramento was a hearing room in the Legislative Office Building. The dark-paneled chamber, with its courtroom-like arrangement, was imposing. Engraved on the wall above the elevated dais was the message: "Participation in the rights of citizenship presumes participation in the duties of citizenship." I did a Google search for the quote, and it seems the name ...
It was a lobbying experience. It was a networking opportunity. It was a fact-finding tour. And in a lot of ways, it was just plain fun. Monday and Tuesday last week, about 75 Santa Clarita Valley community, government, business and media leaders boarded a bus or caught a plane to Sacramento for an intensive two-day session with legislators and other government officials. Santa Clarita Valley Zonta Club President Cynthia A. Kittle, clad in a smart black-and-white dress with high-heeled black shoes, was on the floor with a yard stick, measuring distances around an obstacle course taped to the carpet.
"A new look for The Signal," the front-page headline proclaimed. "Local readers may not recognize The Signal when it arrives next week," the story began, "but most of them will like it better than ever. The old newspaper will get a bright new look for the New Year." It was January 1964 when The Signal - then nearly 45 years old - adopted the American eagle as its mascot, along with the mantra "Vigilance Forever." ...
