Water rationing not likely in SCV

Mandatory water rationing is not "in the cards" for Santa Clarita Valley residents, local water officials said in response to Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's proclamation Wednesday of a statewide drought.

"We're in a good position and we don't have to draw on any backup water supplies," said Dan Masnada, general manager of the Castaic Lake Water Agency.

Nearly 500 homes approved

A 492-unit Canyon Country housing development was approved by county supervisors Wednesday, clearing the way for grading of more than 500 acres of land.

Dubbed "Park Place," the development would be located in Tick Canyon at the very eastern edge of Canyon Country at the end of Shadow Pines Boulevard.

Tainted water still counts for land developers

Local water activists are saddened today now that a proposed law promising to slow development through tougher conditions set on groundwater assessment has been struck down in Sacramento.

Assembly Bill AB2046 requires water suppliers such as the Castaic Lake Water Agency to submit to the state the quantity and quality of groundwater being assessed in relation to supplying that water ultimately to an identified group, such as a 500-unit housing development.

Supervisors approve Sheriff academy probe

You can expect to hear plenty of grunting from inside the College of the Canyons gymnasium this summer as young recruits continue training for the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, despite a call this week for a formal review of the training that goes on there and at other academies.

Castaic Lake Water Agency approves camera installation

If anyone should actually ever attend a water meeting they can expect to be videotaped.

The Finance and Administrative Committee of the Castaic Lake Water Agency is going to recommend the agency's board of directors hire a video company to install cameras at four agency locations at a total cost of $330,000.
