It's been a memorable season for Saugus senior Nicole Hicks. Hicks averaged 19.6 points per game and 3.1 steals per game, and broke the school's single-season scoring record and career steals record. The Centurions captured their second straight Foothill League title, and the coaches honored Hicks' accomplishments by voting her as the Foothill League Player of the Year. The Master’s College rode rollercoaster

The Master's College experienced an up-and-down season in 2008-09. That often happens when the roster is limited and full of youngsters. Despite having just nine players, six of which were underclassmen, the Mustangs finished the season 16-14 with an 11-9 mark in the Golden State Athletic Conference. "I think we had to rely on some key kids to score for us," said Mustangs head coach Dan Waldeck, "and when that didn't happen, we struggled to ...

Drawing distinction

The skills of College of the Canyons forward Charity Smith are picture-perfect. She catches the ball in the post, puts it in the basket 63 percent of the time and often takes contact while doing so, earning the chance for an extra free throw. Cougars head coach Greg Herrick couldn't draw it up any better. Smith, on the other hand, might be able to. When she's not bruising her way through opponents on the court, ...

Style over style

Golden Valley has done well this season because its style is tough to defend. Just ask the Grizzlies themselves, who couldn't slow that style down when Gahr of Cerritos threw it right back at them.

Grizz look to amaze Gahr

First, Golden Valley was dominant in its pre-league season. Then, the Grizzlies won the first Foothill League title of any kind in school history. Now Golden Valley will look to continue its run through the CIF-Southern Section Division IIIA postseason, representing a league that saw four teams reach the CIF quarterfinals. "Golden Valley carrying the flag for the Foothill League," said head coach Chris Printz. "That kind of sounds like life on Mars." Regardless of ...
